Strict Penalties for Illegal Taxis in Abu Dhabi

Introduction
The Abu Dhabi Police have implemented stricter penalties in the emirate following the apprehension of 1,573 vehicles operating as illegal taxis in the first four months of 2019. The police have announced a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal taxis, emphasizing that such operations violate traffic regulations.
Police Statements
Colonel Mubarak Awad bin Muhairum, Director of Transport Security at Abu Dhabi Police, stated, "Some drivers of these illegal taxis may not possess valid driving licenses issued by the UAE authorities, and some might be residing in the country unlawfully."
Police Investigations
Investigations revealed that most illegal taxis are owned by individuals or companies that employ unlicensed drivers to operate their service. It is noted that illegal taxis charge 10 dirhams per person and can transport four passengers at a time.
Imposed Penalties
The penalty for transporting passengers illegally includes a fine of 3,000 dirhams, 24 black points, and the vehicle will be confiscated for 30 days in accordance with federal traffic laws.
