Expansion of Tesla in Dubai's Taxi Fleet
Following the successful completion of the pilot program, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to incorporate additional Tesla Model 3 cars to further test their feasibility before making a permanent shift to electric taxis.
RTA's Vision for Sustainable Development
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, commented, “The usage of Tesla electric vehicles in the Dubai taxi fleet is an exceptional experience. This initiative contributes to realizing His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s Green Economy for Sustainable Development Initiative and supports Dubai Government’s energy and low carbon strategy aimed at making Dubai a model for efficient energy use and reduced carbon emissions.”
Benefits of Electric Mobility
The RTA also noted that the positive feedback received from these vehicles expands the scope for utilizing electric mobility in the future, affirming their commitment to lowering carbon emissions and preventing adverse environmental effects. This initiative is a significant step towards transitioning 90% of the Dubai Taxi Corporation's fleet into hybrid (petrol+battery) and fully electric vehicles.
Performance of Tesla Model 3 in Dubai
The reliability of the new Tesla Model 3 cars has been strongly embraced by the associates of the Dubai Taxi Corporation, allowing these vehicles to operate continuously, all seven days a week. Tesla cars are currently catering to all-day and night services, covering high-density areas and Dubai airports.
Tesla models also serve as premium taxis in the city and offer the availability of semi-autonomous driving features.
Future of Electric Vehicles in Dubai
