New Smoking Regulations
A new law will impose fines on anyone smoking inside a vehicle if a child aged 12 or younger is present. The penalty will double for repeat offenses. On Monday, the UAE Cabinet approved stricter enforcement of the Federal Tobacco Control Law, first enacted in 2010.
Expert Opinions
Dr. Widad Al-Maidour, Chairperson of the National Tobacco Control Committee at the Ministry of Health, expressed her satisfaction with the new regulations, stating that implementation would begin soon after Ramadan. She also mentioned that traffic police will start training shortly.
Impact of Penalties
She added that from now on, individuals will think twice before lighting a cigarette in their vehicles.
Advertising and Marketing Restrictions
There will also be fines for those who violate advertising prohibitions, import tobacco without proper warnings, or display cigarette products near cash registers.
