The Ajman Public Transportation Authority (APTA) has announced the completion of installing smart meters in 85% of taxis with the entire fleet set for completion before the end of the year. This move has been brought up to enhance customer satisfaction of public transport users in the emirate.

In a move to ease regulations and promote travel during the ongoing pandemic, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has increased the number of passengers permitted to travel in a taxi. While initially only two passengers were allowed in the back seat, the RTA now permits three passengers, provided the third passenger is a child up to 14 years old.

All 6,180 taxis that make up the Abu Dhabi public taxi fleet are now equipped to accept card-based fare payments, the Department of Municipalities, and Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) announced earlier this week. A long time coming, the feature has been rolled out to further limit contact between drivers and commuters to further curb the spread of the coronavirus.
