Boo! Cadillac CT4 and CT5 may be replaced by EVs
Tags:
Cadillac is allegedly planning to retire its internal combustion engine (ICE) sedans—the CT4 and CT5—for all-electric replacements. The buzz comes from GM Authority, where they report that Caddy won't be comin up with direct successors for the aforementioned sedans. And yeah, the Blackwing versions of the cars will be no more. *SOB*
Electric Successors on the Horizon
Cadillac is testing electric options that are likely to resemble the size and stature of the present CT5—and even the now-discontinued CT6.
Whispers say that the new models may have a sportback configuration, taking cues from groundbreaking showings such as the Escala and the hyper-luxurious Celestiq. Additionally, they are to use a refined variant of GM's BEV3 architecture called BEV Prime.
Electrification Strategy and Sales Goals
This action aligns with Cadillac's larger electrification plan. The company has been aggressive in setting goals, seeking to have electric vehicles make up 30 to 35 percent of its total sales by 2025—an astonishing increase from the 18 percent posted in 2024.
Cadillac's expanding EV lineup already features offerings such as the Lyriq and Celestiq, and future names including the Escalade IQ, Vistiq, and budget-friendly Optiq are likely to further strengthen its electric offerings.
Market Impact and Future Outlook
Even in the face of a more widespread industry EV adoption slowdown, Cadillac is firm in its decision to move away from internal combustion engines and toward electric powertrains. Ending the CT4 and CT5 ICE models represents a clear tipping point.
While information on launch schedules and technical details for the upcoming EV models is not yet public, industry analysts anticipate that these electric replacements will be a game-changer for Cadillac's positioning in the luxury market.
