Electric Vehicle Sales Milestone

Recently, Lexus announced that its cumulative global sales of vehicles equipped with electric drive systems have surpassed 2 million units by the end of April 2021, further solidifying the company's leadership in the luxury electric vehicle sector.

Expanding the Electric Vehicle Portfolio

This remarkable achievement reflects Lexus's commitment to enhancing its lineup of luxurious electric vehicles, based on the philosophy of "the right product at the right place at the right time," aiming to leverage diverse energy sources and infrastructure available worldwide.

  • Lexus currently sells nine models equipped with electric drive systems.
  • The portfolio includes Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV).
  • Lexus electric vehicles are available in approximately 90 countries worldwide.

Environmental Impact of Lexus Electric Vehicles

In 2020, global sales of Lexus electric models accounted for 33% of total sales. Since 2005, Lexus electric vehicles have contributed to a cumulative reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of around 19 million tons, equivalent to the total carbon emissions produced by 300,000 vehicles annually over the past fifteen years.

Statements from Officials

On this occasion, Ki Fujita, Chief Representative of the Toyota Representative Office in the Middle East and Central Asia, stated:

"We are proud to achieve this remarkable milestone in our journey, which reinforces our strong commitment to addressing environmental challenges and achieving a carbon-neutral society that allows everyone to enjoy a happy, healthy, and sustainable life while providing freedom of mobility. Lexus possesses high competitive knowledge and expertise regarding the core technologies of electric-powered vehicles."

Lexus Electric Vision

Under the "Lexus Electric" vision launched in 2019, Lexus continues to develop its electric drive system technologies to enhance performance characteristics.

  • By 2025, the company plans to launch 20 new or improved models.
  • The lineup will include more than 10 vehicles relying on Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) systems.
  • Lexus aims to achieve carbon neutrality over the entire lifecycle of its vehicles by 2050.

Future Plans

To accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, Lexus plans to launch the commercial production of its first plug-in hybrid vehicle in 2021, along with a completely new model dedicated to electric drive systems in 2022.

By utilizing electric drive technologies such as motors, converters, and batteries developed by Lexus over the years, the company strives to create new value and a unique driving experience for its luxury electric vehicles.
