Tesla Announces Major Recall Affecting Over 2 Million Vehicles
In a significant move, Tesla has announced a major recall impacting over 2 million vehicles, including all models from the 2012 Model S to the latest 2023 variants. This recall, officially submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), arises from a critical flaw in Tesla's Autopilot system, which has been criticized for its inadequate prevention of misuse by customers.

According to documents from the NHTSA, the core issue lies in the Autopilot system's failure to adequately measure the driver's awareness or readiness in situations that require intervention or cancellation of the system.
What is Tesla's Solution?
Tesla will deploy a rapid over-the-air software update, which will be distributed free of charge to the affected vehicles. This update aims to enhance system controls by providing additional levels of alerts and checks. These planned improvements will be particularly vigilant when the “Autosteer” feature is used outside of controlled-access highways.
As clarified by Tesla to the NHTSA, one unique feature of the update is the ability to suspend the “Autosteer” function for drivers who repeatedly fail to maintain continuous and sustainable driving responsibility while it is activated.
NHTSA documents revealed that as of noon on December 7, 2023, production of Model S, Model X, Model Y, and Model 3 will include software designed to seamlessly integrate the described solution. This decisive action by the electric vehicle giant underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and integrity of its autonomous driving technology.
