"We are proud to receive this award for the designs we have created over the past few years. When we began working on the XC90, we knew we had an opportunity to take Volvo cars in a new direction," said Thomas Ingenlath, Vice President of Volvo Cars, while accepting the award at the ceremony held in Turin, Italy.
Design of the Volvo XC90
The XC90 made the public reconsider the Swedish brand in 2014, marking the first step in a design journey led by Thomas Ingenlath, which was followed by vehicles like the S90 sedan and V90 estate.
Characteristics of the Volvo Family
Thomas Ingenlath added: "The Volvo family is characterized by several traits: powerful and pure types, elegant yet sophisticated, dynamic and youthful. What we have done in design at Volvo is to find a place for all these traits while respecting Volvo’s significant heritage."

The Awards Committee
The International Car Design Awards committee consisted of auditors and representatives from well-known car owners and design magazines from around the world. Volvo won the Design Language category, surpassing Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar.
