Installation of New Surveillance Cameras in Abu Dhabi to Improve Road Safety

In Abu Dhabi, 40 infrared cameras are being installed at various locations. These cameras will capture vehicles running red lights without using a flash, making it seem to drivers that their actions have gone unnoticed.
Statements from the Director of Abu Dhabi Patrol Directorate
Brigadier Hussein Ahmad Al-Harithi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic Police Patrol Directorate, stated that the cameras are equipped to cover five lanes in all directions. The cameras are capable of:
- Reading license plates of all vehicles.
- Counting the number of cars on the road at any time.
- Assessing the average speed on roadways.
- Determining the number of pedestrians and the direction they are moving.
Directorate's Efforts to Enhance Traffic Safety
Al-Harithi added that the directorate is making every effort to ensure a better environment for safe roads in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi by adding equipment to monitor traffic flow on the roads.
